I’m 25 years old, married with 2 children : 1 daughter (2 years old), and 1 son (6 years old). I grew up with 7 siblings: 3 older brothers, 2 older sisters, 1 younger sister, and 1 younger brother, but my eldest brother passed away.
I worked in a clothes factory for 3 years, but then I heard about the Banteay Srey Spa from one of the trainees and wanted to join her. My husband supported my decision, especially since it’s closer to home and a women only work environment.
I’ve been working here since mid-September 2017, and now I can do body scrub, facials, manicure, pedicure, hand and foot massages. I also cook and make smoothies.
For now, I particularly enjoy doing facials, but I like learning new things, and I’m looking forward to add more skills, like full body massages. I’d be interested in braiding hair as well. As for English classes, I struggle a bit, but I’m motivated and am starting to understand more words.
Money wise, some months are more difficult than others. My income from Banteay Srey Spa covers my husband’s daily lunches and day-care for my children. My grandmother looks after them when I work, but she depends on the money I give her. Besides, they are pretty boisterous, so it’s tiring to look after them and she deserves to be paid for it.
My husband is a mechanic and fixes big trucks. With the mortgage on the house and the fact that we need to save up for our children’s education, we cannot afford to have me stay at home with the kids.
Thanks to the Banteay Srey Project, I can provide for my family, have more time with them (the spa is close to our home), while I learn and develop new skills.
